Things I Find on TV
Mood:  lucky
Topic: The World At Large
Hey, there.

The other day I changed the channel to Quebec's TV5 and caught the last half hour of Champion et ses G-Strings at the Montreal Jazz Festival. When I could breathe again, I set the VCR to tape the entire concert later on. The first song I heard was "No Heaven", a chain gang lament from the US South. Oh, Lord/There is no heaven... I came awfully close to having a Stendahl-like experience. Try this Google: champion g-strings and see what results. The shortcut is this article in the Montreal Mirror.

It sure is hot. Must be time for the super of my building to water the lawn preferably in the midday heat. That's when the plants need water most, right?

Listen, it's a slow news day. Big announcement that the Hell's Angels East Van chapter are a criminal organisation. Who knew.

Meanwhile, let's try to forget Mayor Larry Campbell's lame and inaccurate comments after MP Chuck Cadman's service last Saturday. When interviewed, Mr. Campbell mumbled something about "He's a hero..." and made reference to how Mr. Cadman's son's murder was the catalyst that turned him into a politician when Mr. Cadman's daughter Jodi had said the opposite during the service. Whoops! Mr. Campbell's fancy hat is clearly designed for style not paying attention. Plus, he looked like he just woke up. At least Prime Minister Martin and Mr. Harper, or their speech writers, put a little thought into what they might say should a microphone be planted in front of them.

I Sped Around Town Today
Mood:  chillin'
Topic: The World At Large
I bought a frozen lasagna the other day and completely forgot that it couldn't be microwaved. I looked at the instructions for a terribly long time without making any sense of them...I saw the phrase "1 hour and 35 minutes" and fidgeted.

Anyway, it was really good yesterday and tonight. Lots of garlic.

So, who else thought that Karla Homolka was stoned on something? She seemed to have difficulty keeping her eyes open. Either she was sleep-deprived or she was trying to look sexy. She slurred her words a bit more than necessary and that made me wonder. Then there was the Tim Horton's thing--the thought of an iced cappucino seemed to make her giggle. I don't understand iced coffee. It seems wrong.

MP Gurmant Grewal has really had a busload of grief lately. I think it's nature's way of suggesting a new career path.

I was sorry to hear of MP Chuck Cadman's passing. Not in a month of Sundays would I ever have voted for him yet I applaud his decency. Being a public figure having to handle cancer in front of everybody takes some mettle. Mr. Cadman looked good on the floor; he scrubbed up well because of the ponytail and gum chewing. It made him seem the most human of the whole bunch. You'd know what I mean if you've ever watched the blowhards at it during Question Period. My sympathies go out to the Cadman family.

Driving around New Westminster was kind of spooky. I used to live there about a hundred years ago. Seeing it now I became afflicted with that same vague uneasy feeling that elders have when they see how once familiar locales have changed in their absence. I was listening to a mix of what a former acquaintance used to call "Archie and Veronica music"; CCR, Lovin' Spoonful, Byrds.

I went to 4 Value Villages today in search of another printer, short sleeved shirts, big headphones, and a blue denim jean jacket. What do you know, I came home with nothing. That must mean that I don't need anything.

T'Other End of the Day
Mood:  chillin'
Topic: The World At Large
Later that same day...

Some completed tasks include getting paid, paying auto insurance, shopping, eating (Chinese food), paying rent...all quite painless matters. The sun is out and my stomach still hurts. Will I never be satisfied?

The Queen made an eloquent address to the nation today; see it here at the BBC.
